Course Description
As electric vehicles become increasingly common on our roadways, emergency responders must be prepared to safely and effectively manage the unique hazards they present. This comprehensive course provides firefighters, company officers, and rescue personnel with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to electric vehicle emergencies involving fires, collisions, charging stations, submerged vehicles, and damaged battery systems.
Students will gain an understanding of electric vehicle design, high-voltage systems, lithium-ion battery technology, thermal runaway, fire suppression and cooling tactics, extrication considerations, scene stabilization, and post-incident monitoring. Through real-world case studies and hands-on training opportunities, participants will learn proven strategies for mitigating risks while protecting responders and the public.
This program combines classroom instruction with practical applications to prepare emergency personnel for the challenges posed by today’s rapidly evolving vehicle technologies.
